About

Tailored Thoughts is a woman-owned company. I initially established it in 1987 and recently resumed operations. In the time period of 1987 – 1998, I produced technical documentation and related materials for companies in the Seattle area. Clients included Microsoft; Applied Precision, Inc.; The Write Stuff; Washington Natural Heritage Program, WA Department of Natural Resources (volunteer only); Davey Stephens – Northwest Coast Artist; and the Int’l Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Several of the awards I received were for work completed for the Washington Natural Heritage Program and Davey Stephens.

Owner: Julie Norris

J. Norris I have a B.A. in English – Technical Communications, over 20 years of experience in the field, and have received four industry awards (three STC, one IABC). This company, Tailored Thoughts, provides writing and content production; online community management including blogs, Twitter, and Facebook; WordPress blog customization; and of course, technical documentation.

For all of these items, my focus is on use of social media.

Currently, I run my blog, handling all aspects of production: writing, WordPress site coding, and day-to-day management. I’ve become proficient with WordPress, and am familiar with the code, so am able to develop and maintain websites and blogs. I also maintain several Twitter feeds, as follows. Each is unique in focus.

- @2moroDocs focuses on sharing current technology and industry topics of interest to technical writers. This is my main account. It’s been in existence since May 2009.
- @TC_Chat is the feed for the #TCchat20 Twitter chat. This feed provides announcements regarding the chat, as well as information about other chats periodically. This was set up in September, 2010.
- @TailoredThought is my company feed. I’ll be using it for announcements as well as information sharing. I launched this in October, 2010.

I also maintain Facebook pages for each of these items.

I also set up a group in LinkedIn for Facebook page managers. It’s call Facebook Admins for Pages and is an open group. If you’re a page admin, join in!

In July of 2010, I was named #16 in MindTouch’s list of 25 Most Influential Technical Communicator Bloggers. My blog was included on Alltop.com in the Technical Writing section. A post was included as a Holy Kaw item on Alltop.com (for which I feel quite honored). Also, a number of 2moroDocs posts have been added to the EServer Technical Communication Library, an extensive database of articles related to the field of technical communication. For all of these items, I feel quite fortunate and appreciative. This site was added to the Showcase for StudioPress, which develops the themes I use for my websites. In January 2012, I was named #48 of 400 in #TechComm and #ContentStrategy by MindTouch. In the same list, my chat was listed at #92. Here’s a link to the list: The 400 Most Influential in #TechComm and #ContentStrategy. I’m very pleased to be listed in the top 50 in the list, as I had significantly reduced my discussions about technical writing on my blog.
